Balagarh Bijoy Krishna Mahavidyalaya is incepted as the undergraduate Degree College and the only higher learning institute in and around Balagarh Block situated at the east fringe of Hooghly District under the state of West Bengal. The institute was established in the year 1985 and is affiliated to the University of Burdwan,W.B. It is named after revered Late Bijoy Krishna Modak, the noted freedom fighter, renowned educationist and lifelong social activist. Indeed, late Bijoy Krishna Modak is the founding father of the College. The College is accredited by NAAC in the year 2007 and graded as C++.
The College is located at the place named Jirat within a distance of five minutes’ walk from the Jirat Railway Station of the Eastern Railway Division. It is situated by the road side of and connected with S.T.K.K Road (Saptagram-Tribeni-Kalna–Katwa Road/Assam Road/Kalna-Katwa Road) via G. T. Road with a distance of about 23 kms. from Bandel, Hooghly towards north and about 25 kms. from Kalna, Burdwan towards south.
